$6,000 Donated to Northfield Hospital through DJJD’s Give Cancer the Boot Campaign
On Monday, December 18, the Defeat of Jesse James Days (DJJD) committee presented a $6,000 donation to Northfield Hospital and Clinics. The donation is designated to the Northfield Hospital Breast Care Center and the Northfield Hospital Cancer Care and Infusion Center. The funds were raised as part of the Give Cancer the Boot campaign, which was started by members of the DJJD committee in 2013 to spread awareness and show their support for those in the Northfield community who are going through cancer treatment.
“This is always a high point in our year,” said Galen Malecha, DJJD General Chairperson. “Since the campaign started, we’ve donated nearly $60,000 – and we look forward to continuing to add to that total.”
Funds are raised through a variety of DJJD events including the annual cornhole tournament, Purse and Tool Bingo event, and Shop for a Cause Day – all sponsored by local area businesses.
Several staff members were on hand to receive the donation this year:
- Lisa Lang, Director of Diagnostic Imaging (including the Breast Care Center)
- Elizabeth Rowland, Lead Mammography Technologist
- Jodi Wieczorek, Director of Cancer Care & Infusion Center
- Katie Stime, Breast Care Nurse Navigator
The donation will help fund comfort items for patients undergoing breast surgery, and patients starting cancer treatment including making weighted blankets available to patients during chemotherapy treatments; and other amenities to comfort and support cancer patients at NH+C.
“These touches make it a little better for cancer patients,” said Jodi Wieczorek, Director of the Cancer Care & Infusion Center. “This brings them comfort, and we’re so grateful.”
“DJJD serves as a fundraiser for many other non-profits in our community, as well as youth groups, and GCTB is just another way we seek to support our community through the celebration,” said Rebecca Peterson, GCTB Chairperson, who was on hand for the donation presentation, along with Galen.
