Joseph Lee Heywood Distinguished Service Award Guidelines

Committee Members and Recipient Selection Process

(Adopted by the Board of Directors of the DJJD Committee on May 17, 1994)

1. The Committee shall consist of the following:

  • “Heywood Banquet” chair(s)
  • Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee General Chair
  • Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee Chair of the Board of Directors
  • One person not on the Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee
  • One additional Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee member (not on the Board of Directors). Prefer an individual with prior Heywood Committee experience.

2. The Committee shall meet to review the list of potential recipients and to discuss additions to the list.

3. The Heywood Committee members shall be assigned the task of compiling a complete biography on the candidates.

4. The Heywood Committee shall meet to review the biographies and make the final decision on the candidate that best meets the criteria for this award.

5. The Heywood Committee Chair will present the Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee Board of Directors the candidate nominated. The Board of Directors will then approve or disapprove this nominee.

6. After the Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee Board of Directors has approved the Heywood recipient nominee, the Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee General Chairperson shall contact the individual(s) regarding the acceptance of the award.

7. The entire Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration Committee will be made aware of the recipient.

8. The General Chairperson (or their assigned representative) shall contact the local media regarding the selection of the recipient with sufficient information to broadcast and publish the story on the recipient.
