Saturday – 9:30 am – 6th and Division Street (Line-up near Family Fare Supermarkets, Formerly Econo Foods.)
Line-up starts at 9:00 AM
Parade starts at exactly 9:30 AM
Join the parade! Any child (ages infant to 12) who is wearing a costume and wants to have fun in a parade is welcome to participate! The only requirement is that all participants wear a costume. Your costume can be anything you’d like as long as it’s not offensive or a scary type outfit.
Please note that parents who wish to push a stroller or pull a wagon must be wearing a costume too!
“Kids” 13+ are welcome to participate by being helpers and banner bearers. Contact the VFW if you are interested.
Every participant receives a participation ribbon, and Ice Cream (at the end). Volunteers and clowns will be there to organize and entertain participants before the start of the parade.
Costumes are grouped in 5 main categories:
1. Fancy Dress (1 or 2 people)
2. Fancy Dress groups (3 or more people)
3. Bikes & Tricycles
4. Wagons & Floats
5. Animals
The parade is completed before the Bank Raid Re-enactment at 11 AM. The line up is on Division Street between 6th Street and 7th Street by Family Fair Supermarket (Econo Foods). The route goes North on Division to end at 2nd Street (by Archer House) where the ice cream treat will be given out. Public restrooms are available in the lower level of the Archer House and in the Northfield Public Library.
This great event began in 1961 by the VFW Auxiliary Post 4393 (Northfield) to get the kids involved in DJJD. The first parade only had 25 kids take part. The Auxiliary still runs it, and the parade now draws 250-350 participants!
