Save the date - A message from 2009 General Chair Shelley Brady
We are busy planning our 2009 Defeat of Jesse James Days festival. Like all communities throughout Minnesota with their festivals, you finish one year and start right over planning for the next year.
My name is Shelley Brady and I’ve been honored by our Committee Members as the 2009 Defeat of Jesse James Days General Chair. I’ve been on the committee for 13 years and have been involved in many aspects of the celebration. Almost all of those 13 years, I been involved with the Royalty Scholarship Program when my daughter was crowned the 1997 Defeat of Jesse James Days Princess. Other duties included 3 years as a Board Director, 3 years as the Grand Parade Chair and originator of the Prize Drawings at the Entertainment Center as well as lending a hand wherever I could.
Like so many committee members, I love this celebration and the Northfield Community. The history of heroism that our townspeople demonstrated in DEFEATING Jesse James and his gang and the celebration every year to honor their bravery and determination to not allow them to take from their hard earnings brings our community together as well as thousands of visitors throughout Minnesota and out of state. The Defeat of Jesse James days is the largest ALL volunteer and the 3rd largest Celebration in Minnesota.
If you have never been here, please consider this to be at the top of your list to check out. We have renowned Reenactments of the actual raid, a carnival, rodeos, craft shows, bingo, tractor pulls, Entertainment Center with good music and entertainment, parades and the list goes on. Mark your calendar for the weekend after Labor Day with festivities beginning September 9th and concluding with our spectacular Grand Parade on Sunday, September 13th.
